Geogrid Definition and Classification

January 10, 2019

Definition of Geogrid: A two-dimensional grid or a three-dimensional grid screen with a certain height, made of high-molecular polymers such as polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride, thermoplastic or molded, when used as civil engineering, It is called a geogrid.

1, geogrid

Geogrid is a major geosynthetic material. Compared with other geosynthetics, it has unique properties and effects. Geogrids are often used as reinforcement for reinforced earth structures or as reinforcement for composite materials. Geogrid is divided into four categories: plastic geogrid, plastic geogrid, Glass Fiber geogrid and glass fiber Polyester Geogrid.

(1) Plastic geogrid

The plastic geogrid is a square or rectangular polymer net material formed by stretching, and can be uniaxially stretched or biaxially stretched according to the different stretching directions during its manufacture. It is punched out of extruded polymer sheets (polypropylene or high-density polyethylene as raw materials), and then subjected to oriented stretching under heating conditions. The uniaxially stretched grating is made by stretching only along the length of the sheet, while the biaxially oriented grating is made by continuing to stretch the uniaxially stretched grating in the direction perpendicular to its length.

As the plastic geogrid in the manufacture of polymer polymer will be rearranged orientation with the heating process, strengthening the link between the molecular chain, to achieve the purpose of improving its strength. Its elongation rate is only 10% to 15% of the original plate. If carbon black and other anti-aging materials are added to the geogrid, it can have good durability such as acid resistance, alkali resistance, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance.

(2) Plastic geogrid

Steel-plastic geogrid is made of high-strength steel wire (or other fiber), specially treated with polyethylene (PE), and added with other additives. It is extruded to make it a composite high-strength tensile strip with a rough surface The pattern is a high-strength reinforced geotextile belt. As a result, the single tape is longitudinally and horizontally arranged at a certain distance or arranged in a clamping manner, and welding is performed using a special enhanced fusion bonding welding technique to form a joint. This is a reinforced geogrid.

(3) Glass fiber geogrid

Glass fiber geogrid is a kind of geocomposite material made of glass fiber as a material, a mesh structure material made of a certain weaving process, and a special coating treatment process to protect the glass fiber and improve the overall performance. The main components of glass fiber are: silica, inorganic material, its physical and chemical properties are extremely stable, and has high strength, high modulus, high wear resistance and excellent cold, no long-term creep; thermal stability Good; mesh structure interlocks and restricts aggregates; improves the load-bearing capacity of asphalt mixtures. Due to the special modified asphalt coated on the surface, it has two-fold composite performance, which greatly improves the wear resistance and shearing ability of the geogrid.

Sometimes combined with self-adhesive pressure glue and surface asphalt impregnation treatment, so that the grid and asphalt pavement closely integrated into one. As the interlocking force of earth and stone materials in the geogrid grid increases, the friction coefficient between them increases significantly (up to 08 to 10), and the geogrid embeds the pull-out force in the soil due to the difference between the grid and the soil. The frictional bite force is stronger and significantly larger, so it is a very good reinforcement material. At the same time, the geogrid is a kind of plastic flat mesh material with light weight and certain flexibility. It is easy to cut and connect on the spot, and it can also overlap and overlap. The construction is simple and does not require special construction machinery and professional and technical personnel.

(4) Polyester Fiber warp geogrid

Polyester fiber warp geogrid selected high-strength polyester fiber as raw material. Using warp and weaving orientation structure, the warp and weft yarns in the fabric are not bent with each other, and the intersections are bound together by high-strength fiber filaments to form a strong joint, and give full play to its mechanical properties. High-strength polyester fiber warp weave geogrid The grid has high tensile strength, low extension force, high tear resistance strength, small difference in longitudinal and transverse strength, resistance to UV aging, abrasion resistance, corrosion resistance, light weight, strong interlocking with soil or gravel, and reinforcement of soil Shear and reinforcement improve the integrity and load of the soil, which has a significant effect.
